While serving in the U. S. Army, I was at Kagnew Station, a post in Asmara, Eritrea from summer of 1967 to late fall of 1969. My wife and I enjoyed this opportunity to learn about another country and its cultures, and I continued to develop my abilities in photography. Living in Asmara was wonderful in some ways, and our feelings for the people there made us view with sadness the war and famine through the last half of the past century. We hope for better times for the people of Eritrea. We made a lot of travel and vacation shapshots, but these were made with more thought and effort. All are 35mm, made with either a half-frame Fujica or Minolta SR-1s. Monochromes are Tri-X, color are Ektachrome.
